Backdrop
A studio setting is preferred for core instructor recordings. If you are able to use studio space, try to make sure the background is a plain white wall and no mirrors are visible.
If studio space is unavailable, you will need a completely plain, white background and a light colored, plain flooring/carpet so that videos can be adjusted to fit learning platform placements. White backdrops like these are required in the event that the recording is not done in a studio.
Lighting
Video lighting should be bright and uniform so that your instruction can be seen clearly. You may use ring lighting to enhance the video; however ensure that there is enough ambient lighting to ensure a consistent brightness.
Video
Videos can be recorded with a smartphone when video recording is set to the highest resolution available (usually the back camera) and auto focus is enabled to track your movements.
You will need to use a tripod so that the camera is in a fixed position, we recommend purchasing this tripod which also comes with an automatic start/stop recording remote. Instructor’s entire body should be visible throughout the lesson so that students can follow along without distraction of video cropping.
Sound
Recording of audio takes careful consideration. Verbal audio of instruction should be clear but balanced with music when played in the background.
- For recording verbal instruction we recommend using a wireless lavalier mic (For Android or For iPhone) which will reduce background noise and ensure clarity of your instruction.
- When recording a tutorial while playing music, ensure that the audio is close to your phone so that audio quality is not lost to the dynamics of the room.
Props
You may include simple props in your choreography (dandiya, sunglasses, etc). Make sure to mention if any props are required in your short description of the tutorial so that dancers are aware before purchasing.
Attire – Wear clothing that is comfortable to dance in and not too distracting from the instruction. To maintain some uniformity, we ask all core instructors to wear a purple top and black bottoms. Makeup is optional.
